Q: Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
A: I was born and raised in the San Francisco bay area and am currently based there
Q: What have you studied, and what are you doing now?
A: I am studying marketing and communications. I would love to work on the sales and marketing side of the fashion industry
Q: Links to your style networks?
A: my tumblr: http://prettyhappygirls.tumblr.com
my instagram: @_jessinadress
Q: How would you describe your personal style in 3-5 words?
A: Classic, preppy, chic
Q: Where do you shop? Luxury or high street? New or vintage? Boutiques? Online?
A: I love to find clothes in small boutiques, I think it is important to support small businesses and I like finding clothing pieces that not everyone will have. I do tend to spend a lot of time and money at Nordstrom. My guilty pleasure is online shopping, I have found some great things at ASOS and other online shops. I have about 20,000 dollars worth of clothing in my shopping cart on Shopbop. Wishful thinking :)
Q: If you had $300 for a shopping spree, how many items would you buy?
A: I am the type of person who likes having a few nice things over a ton of lesser quality things. I would probably buy 2-4 items
Q: Do you prefer street style fashion or runway fashion?
A: I love both street style fashion and runway fashion. Street style is so much easier to aspire to and recreate in your own day to day life which I love. Runway fashion to me is almost like a museum show, you can look, but cant touch. I love looking at it, I wish I could wear it, but realistically just cant afford.
Q: What do you splurge on? Skimp on?
A: If I could pick one item I splurge on it would be Shoes. Shoes can make or break an outfit and if you buy a nice shoe they last far longer and I find tend to be more comfortable. Generally there aren't really specific items I splurge on. Sometimes I will see something and even though it exceeds my budget I just know I have to have it or I will be dreaming about it in my sleep for years to come and kick myself over the purchase that could have been. When there is a new trend that I'm not sure about or not sure will last I tend to buy the cheapest option just to test it out. I dont like to invest big money on items that will be out of style in a year or two.
Q: When and how did you become interested in fashion, and where do you find your inspiration?
A: I think I've been interested in fashion since about the time I could walk. I always picked my own outfits, even when they were outrageous. As a child I had 3 to 6 outfit changes a day, ranging from a princess dress to a hula skirt and bikini. I styled my barbie dolls and my best friend and I would put on fashion shows. Fashion was always part of my life, always something that was important to me. As the years have passed my style has evolved and it will continue to evolve.
Q: Who are your favorite style icon(s)?
A: Audrey Hepburn is probably one of my biggest fashion icons. She pushed boundaries but had a classic elegance to everything she wore. More recent role models have been Olivia Palermo, and 1989 era Taylor Swift.
Q: What are your favorite fashion blogs? Magazines?
A: Vogue and Harpers Bazaar are my two go to magazines. I love the Coveteur and even find the style section of the wall street journal to be an interesting read. Instagramer and blogger margoandme as well as the blog Kayture. Tumblr also has some great fashion blogs like Vogue-is-viral and Allthe-prettythings.
Q: What do you love about fashion? Not love?
A: Caitlin Moran once said "When a woman says, I have nothing to wear!, what she really means is, Theres nothing here for who Im supposed to be today.” Fashion is a way to say who you are or who you want to be without having to speak. Fashion is a form of self expression. What someone chooses to put on their body says a lot about them. To me fashion is like wearable art, especially the fashion that comes off of couture runways.
Q: Your favorite designers & brands?
A: I love Kate Spade, and the type of woman they are representing. I am a student so there are many brands and designers that I adore, but can't always afford. Burberry, Valentino, Miu Miu and Dior are some of my all time favorite designers, but I just don’t have the budget for.
Q: Do you follow fashion trends? Which ones?
A: I dont always follow fashion trends, but I do admire them from afar. There are certain styles that I appreciate and when somebody rocks a new trend I give them props. The trends I love right now are matching two piece outfits. Like a crop top and high waisted shorts. I adore the high waisted trend because I feel it is such a classic vintage look. Im glad it came back in style. I think the mini skirt is a classic trend that I have fully embraced. I love the t-shirt dress look because it can be dressed up or down and just looks effortlessly stylish. I think the one trend that should never go out of style is the LBD. It is a classic that every woman should own.
Q: Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
A: With outfits I like to mix it up. I have outfits I know work and I know I'm comfortable in, but I like to push the boundaries a bit sometimes too and try something different. I think when putting an outfit together it is important to remember not to overdo it. Dont overwhelm an outfit with to much jewelry or too many bold pieces. Some of the best outfits are really simple.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: My dream job is to work with a marketing team for a fashion house or work with magazines like Vogue or Harpers Baazar
Q: What are your other interests? How do you spend your spare time?
A: I love to travel. In the past two years I have lived in Rome and Paris and have been to 21 different countries. I love being in the water, whether it be swimming, paddle boarding or sailing. I like adventure. Going to new places and exploring is one of my favorite things to do, even if it is just in my own town.
