Q: How would you describe your personal style in 3-5 words?
A: Hm. I always struggle with questions like this. 3-5 words seems so restrictive! Nonetheless, I would say my personal style is adequately represented by: relaxed, muted, textured, fresh, and...me!
Q: If you had $300 for a shopping spree, how many items would you buy?
A: It's tough to predict what I would do, as it could go one of two ways: 1) I could be as economical as possible and attempt to purchase as many items as possible (thrift shopping!) within the set budget OR 2) I could splurge on a incredibly high quality, practical, and timeless item. Chances are, I'd go with option #1 (sometimes, I can't help but choose quantity/variety over quality).
Q: Do you prefer street style fashion or runway fashion?
A: Definitely street style fashion. Although I love analyzing runway trends, such looks are undeniably impractical with regard to daily wear. Instead, I prefer street style fashion that pulls inspiration off the runway and reworks the given trends into everyday, wearable styles.
Q: What do you splurge on? Skimp on?
A: I've determined that there are three things a girl should splurge on in her life: a nice handbag, a quality coat (trench, leather, etc.), and beautiful leather boots. I have yet to make any of these purchases, but my time will come. Also, I read somewhere that you should splurge on your basics (a white tee, a good pair of jeans, etc.), as they get the most wear and should be as long-lasting as possible. In terms of what I tend to skimp on, I don't like to spend significant amounts on statement pieces (bold necklaces, patterned kimonos, maxi dresses, and so on). Because they're statement pieces, chances are I won't be wearing them a whole lot (often, they only get worn once or twice). Thus, I avoid feeling guilty about a one-time-wear if the item was fairly cheap.
Q: When and how did you become interested in fashion, and where do you find your inspiration?
A: I would say that I've always had an interest in fashion, yet my fashion fixation didn't truly emerge until my early high school years. I've always had a passion for exercising my creativity, so I think my interest sprouted from this artistic spirit. Although I'm not quite sure what prompted my obsession, I've come to love expressing myself through my clothing and experimenting with my fashion choices. I gain inspiration from life as a whole; the people I encounter, the places I visit, the weather, bloggers, celebrities, and countless other factors. I believe it's impossible to pinpoint just one area of inspiration.
Q: What are your favorite fashion blogs? Magazines?
A: In terms of fashion blogs, I'm an avid reader of: Into The Gloss, Free People Blog, Inthefrow, Beauty Crush, Haleyymadison, and more. Regarding Magazines, I love Kinfolk, Oh Comely, Darling, Vogue (...but of course), Glamour, and InStyle.
Q: What do you love about fashion? Not love?
A: As I mentioned above, I love the fact that fashion acts as an outlet for creative self-expression. In a sense, fashion is a way to convey who you are as an individual purely through visual means. Unfortunately, this has the potential to have negative implications, as many people are quick to form inconsiderate judgement based strictly on appearance. Nonetheless, fashion combines practicality with imagination. YOU make the rules and, ultimately, only YOU have control over your outward interpretation of the word "fashion." Truly, fashion is quite an enigmatic and inspiring part of our daily lives.
Q: Do you have any fashion rules when putting an outfit together?
A: Not at all whatsoever...Which, in all honesty, might not be such a good thing. I'm a large proponent of trusting one's own eye. When putting together an outfit, I determine whether or not a given look works based on 1) how I feel in it and 2) its overall cohesiveness. All in all, my personal "fashion rules" are quite ambiguous...
Q: What is your dream job?
A: Freelance blogger/graphic designer & coffee shop owner; hands down. That way, I'd be able to incorporate ALL of my life passions into a career (maybe not all that realistic, but a girl can dream).
Q: What are your other interests? How do you spend your spare time?
A: Although it may sound cliche, life as a whole interests and captivates me. I adore wandering through new places, interacting with people, cooking and baking, doodling, taking walks, drinking coffee, exploring blogs, attending concerts, and so much more. Don't worry, I'm not one of those people who claims to love EVERY aspect of life or preaches ceaseless happiness. Instead, I strive to embrace both the good and the bad in life, as I believe that recognizing the negative things make the positive ones that much sweeter.
