Hello! My names Payton, I'm 16 -17 in a week- and I was born and raised in Chicago. Though I am coming close to my college years, the stressful application process looming over, I'm still enjoying my high school years and trying to get as much experience in retail and better my writing to the best of my ability.
I haven't a clue how to describe my style but the first three words that come to mind are definitely; Matured 70's chic (maybe...)
Clothing has taken over my life, and wallet, at this point. It's not often -but possible- you'll find me saving for small splurges on Michigan Avenue, but mostly I'll be spending my time at Zara and Topshop or more local Boutiques. When It comes to limited amount of money, I'd like to consider myself a genius at saving. With only $300 I can't decide how I'd spend it. I go through phases and either scowl through sales or buy something that's caught my eye and is worth the price.
Street style is the more relatable aspect of fashion and will speak to everyone in it's own way, but when it comes to being intrigued by art I'd prefer a proper Elie Saab runway over a museum. Even if I can't afford a Victoria Beckham dress there's plenty ways to fill your wardrobe with what you love. Splurge on show pieces and statement pieces. Skimp away at anything that can be simplified or used on a daily. Tags don't mean much but treat yourself every once in awhile.
I wasn't one of those people who always loved clothing, for the first 12 years of my life I lived in sweatshirts and pajama pants. Clothing and the fashion industry didn't really impact me until a couple years ago, I can't recall the final push to it, but something drew me in completely. At the moment my inspiration is constantly changing, Street style will change from Gigi Hadid to Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. Now ask me for a style icon who I believe will forever be remembered, well that's easy, Audrey Hepburn. Enough said.
Though I am in school for seven and a half hours a day, and have to work or try and keep a social life, I'll usually find myself trying to be caught up with Always Judging, WeWoreWhat, Kristina Bazan, Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, etc. All of these people and magazines show the great aspects of fashion including creativity. There's unlimited freedom in everything and it's an artform, not enough people give recognition to. My sad wallet often hurts from fashion and it's hard to keep up with my changing image when your a part time working high school student, but I make it work.
At least for the year of 2015, Elie Saab has won my heart recently along with Edan and Burberry. Then there are the timeless that will forever stand out ; Prada, Chanel, DVF, Givenchy, etc.
Magazines are meant to help readers stay up to date with the constantly evolving fashion trends, but being in the know can definitely help when I'm not quite sure where to go with my days look. But every morning I live by the idea of getting out of your comfort zone, if I hadn't I would have never taken off my sweats.
Though I hope to one day find myself somewhere along the chaos of fashion, there's no hope at me being a designer, I have no artistic ability but wish I to the heavens that I did! I like to think I'd be a good Stylist and or Photographer but only time will tell. Working as a journalist (photo or writer) for a magazine, or a fashion blogger and being able to have collaborations with others or something allowing me to travel and study the fashion of every country!: The future is the most exciting thing we have control of, take advantage of it because your dreams will remain dreams until you take a step forward.
